This Friday’s post is coming to you a little later than usual! I’ve been swamped at getting behind the scenes stuff for the blog going, so I’m just going to share a few random thoughts with you today.
1. All the book clubs
I don’t know what’s gotten into me in 2021, but I’m wanting to join all the book clubs. I’m already a member of Jen Hatmaker’s book club, and someone I follow in the planner community (Cindy Guentert-Baldo) has started her own with 2 books every 6 weeks. So that’s 3 books on my list so far. 🙂
2. Mom staycations and mom guilt
Kristin from Big Little Feelings posted on IG this morning about her staycations. She says 3-4 times a year, she books a solo night at a local hotel with a pool, and takes the time to rest and recharge. She discussed how she got several messages asking her how she didn’t feel guilty about it.
Her answer basically comes down to how she comes home refreshed and recharged and a better mom. She gave the example of selecting a caregiver for your child. Would you choose someone who is happy, well rested, and excited to see the kids? Or someone worn out, tired, stressed, and over it? Also her husband gets the same arrangement and takes a couple days himself. (And also, men don’t generally get questioned when they go on a trip without the family about how guilty they must feel. Just saying.)
While a whole 24 hours to do whatever I want (and sleep whenever I want) sounds heavenly, it’s not super practical while I’m nursing L. I’m going to put it on my wishlist to do at some point this year though!
3. The Enneagram
I FINALLY got around to reading The Road Back to You (affiliate link) and I loved it so much. During each and every chapter, I would think “Oh that’s so and so!” It lets you see the different motivations behind people’s actions, in order to help understand them and love them. If you’re into the enneagram please let me know because I need to talk to someone about it!!! (Also I’m a 6w5.)
4. New blog schedule
From now on, there will be one post a week, on Thursdays. The blog posts I want to write are those that will bring you value, and require a lot of research and time. Much more time than quick life posts like this, although I will still sprinkle these in occasionally. This will also help me batch my content, which will 1. keep me sane during busy season at work and 2. allow me to focus on other aspects of the blog.
Speaking of which…
5. Spend Less Challenge
I’m starting a new email challenge! It’s called the 5 Day Spend Less Challenge (I’m an accountant, I’m not creative haha.) You can sign up with your email in the form below this post, and you’ll get a quick email from me each evening for 5 days. They are nothing crazy, just an opportunity to reflect on your spending habits and some ideas to help you spend a little less that week.
Leave me a comment!
What are you reading this month? If you know your enneagram type, what is it?
