My two boys are 21 months apart. Whenever someone asks me how I handled two under two, my answer is simple.
Baby wearing.
It’s the only way I survived maternity leave, home by myself outnumbered by children! Having BOTH hands free to prepare meals, clean, EAT, and more was so necessary.
I wanted to share my favorite 3 baby carriers because I use and love all of these, but I think they all have their pros and cons. I’m also going to share the weight limit and rank the learning curve from easiest to hardest.
Best for the newborn days: sollybaby wrap
I love the solly wrap for the teeny tiny newborn days. This wrap helps you feel so close to your baby and I always felt like he was very secure in it. Any time I was desperate for him to take a nap, I’d put him in here and vacuum the house. Never failed!
Price: $65
Weight Range: 8-25 lbs
Learning curve: Hardest
I watched a lot of videos on the solly back when D was born. It takes a while to get used to getting the wrap on, but once you have the hang of it, it goes pretty quickly. Pro tip: for an outing, put the wrap on at home. Then when you get to the store you just have to place baby in.
Best for short duration: Wildbird ring sling
It took me a while to love the ring sling. Although you can use it in the newborn days, I liked it better once L could hold his head up. This one is faster to put on than the wrap. However, I dislike that all the weight is on one shoulder rather than being evenly distributed. My shoulder would always start aching after wearing the ring sling for a short amount of time. I watched all the videos I could and spent lots of time practicing but it’s still not as comfortable as the other options. That could just be me though!
I will also say I think this is the prettiest option. In fact, I wore L in our family photo session in a ring sling.
Price: $69.95
Weight Range: 8-35 lbs
Learning curve: Medium
Best All Around: Lillebaby All Seasons
If I had to pick only one carrier, the LILLEbaby complete all seasons would be it. It’s backpack style so it takes literally seconds to put on. Plus there are six different positions baby can sit, including facing outward and even on your back. It’s extremely comfortable and doesn’t hurt my shoulders at all. The shoulder straps are padded and extremely comfortable.
Price: $99.00
Weight Range: 7-45 lbs
Learning Curve: Easy
Have you tried any of these carriers? Did I leave out your favorite?
